The paper describes the TEI/database editorial pipeline behind the Chinese Knowledge and Poetry (CKP) corpus of Ancient and Medieval Chinese texts and argues that hypertext-enriched scholarly editions inevitably shape reading, proposing five editorial principles to preserve reader freedom.
